STAR VISITS IN HÄGERSTEN-LILJEHOLMEN
Improving the basic usage of digital tools as well as providing well-structured content that is shared in-between preschools in the district of Hägersten-Liljeholmen in order to create peer-to-peer learning opportunities for teachers and children within the area.
DIGITAL PRESCHOOLS
The usage of digital tools within preschools is a subject of large debate. In 2019, the curriculum of the preschool changed, and digital skills became a mandate nationally, meaning preschool education should implement digital tools in order for children to attain digital skills.
Digibarn team has addressed the problem of creating exciting and relevant challenges for children and educators to explore and learn more about digital tools and media in the preschool, within the geographical district of Hägersten-Liljeholmen in Stockholm, Sweden.
By using the double diamond design thinking method and tools, our team identified issues around the mixed use of digital tools, lack of teacher knowledge about digital tools and issues surrounding preschool children's exposure to digital tools and skills. Our solution proposes to implement star visits within the district as a solution, which builds on creating networks between teachers and preschools, and create a baseline implementation of educational digital tools, whilst strengthening knowledge and experience.
PROTOTYPE 4 - STAR NEIGHBOUR VISIT
The next prototype is that of the star neighbour visit. In this prototype, the aim is to create new peer-to-peer opportunities, in which teachers and children inspire and teach each other about digital tools. We have identified that there are teachers with a lot of knowledge in the question, which we call star-teachers, and that there are many teachers with less or no knowledge.
PROTOTYPE 1 - POST IT!
The first prototype is that of the posters for awareness, called “Post it”. There´s a lot of stigma around digital tools in the preschool, and we see this as a result of a lack of insight into the process and things happening with digital tools. One quick way to spread information to the public is that of posters which spread a clear and strong message about the situation.
PROTOTYPE 3 - DIGITAL PED
To help our challenge givers to improve their logistics and booking, we created a mock-up of a new booking system, named Digital PED. The idea is to gather all the information in one place, and include background information as well as informative videos of the digital toolboxes being used. After they have had the possibility to explore the different concepts, they are provided with a link to the booking platform.
PROTOTYPE 5 - BASELINE MANUAL
The final prototype is that of the baseline manual. This would be a short manual giving an overarching background to digital tools and digitalisation. By this, all teachers would have access to easily understandable material in the subject. It would also contain simple instructions of how to use the basic infrastructure available in the preschools, such as Ipads, projectors and magnifiers. Why not use the projector during story-time to give the children an exciting background to the story? These simple and visually instructed tasks would mean that all teachers would understand some digital tools, thus meaning that they become integrated into the every-day life of the preschools.
PROTOTYPE 2 - TOOLBOX
The next prototype is named “Toolbox”. The "Toolbox" prototype is an upgrade of previous digital toolboxes available in Hägersten - Liljeholmen, which supplies preschools with digital tools, that can be borrowed via the administration in the district. The solution aims to improve and simplify the content and instructions of already existing digital toolboxes.
